COLUMBIA - Boy Scouts across Missouri collected food Saturday for their annual "Scouting for Food" drive.

All food and donations go to the Central Missouri Food Bank. One den of Scouts from Columbia set up a post outside the Gerbes off Nifong, and even at the age of 9, they already understand the importance of their project.

"Some people just don't have the money to afford to buy stuff at grocery stores," Scout Joseph Jacobs said.

About 2,500 Scouts statewide participated in the drive. This year, the local packs collected more than 38,000 pounds of food.
