Sharing food. Bringing hope.

About Us

The Food Bank is a regional disaster and hunger relief network that acquires and distributes millions of pounds of donated food annually.

Our food bank is one of few food banks nationwide that does not charge for the food it provides. Our food goes to soup kitchens, emergency food pantries, shelters for the abused and homeless, programs for low income children and senior citizens, and rehabilitation centers.

How We Got Started

In 1981, a class project of the Social Work Department of Columbia College led to a partnership between the Central Missouri Counties Human Development Corporation and area churches.

In the first 18 months, 39,000 pounds of donated food were distributed through 15 hunger relief agencies. Today, we annually distribute over 24 million pounds of food from The Food Bank to 135 agencies and 80 schools throughout 32 counties.
